Global pandemic has made it difficult for us to enjoy food at our favorite restaurants. At times, even home delivery doesn't seem like a very safe option. Thus, home cooking has become the only viable option; even during the weekends. But we can totally spice things up in our kitchen.
Being stuck at home has given us more time to enjoy our favorite series, including anime. All anime fans will agree that when we look at that animated food on our screens, our stomach growls and mouth waters. There is something about that glistering food shown in anime, which makes it look so delicious. It makes us want to wish they were real. And good news, they can be. With little to no effort, we can curate our favorite anime dishes at home. Cooking Japanese cuisine is interesting on its own but adding a special flare to it by taking reference from our beloved shows will make it even better.
Here are top 3 iconic anime foods that you can easily cook at home:
3. Red Bean Steamed Bun from Spirited Away
Studio Ghibli is known for making anime films, which incorporate at least one scene where we see characters enjoy a warm plate full of delicious Japanese treats. In Spirited Away, we see Chihiro, the protagonist; take a bite from the iconic delicious Red Bean Steamed Bun while she enjoys a beautiful sunset. Now, we can easily buy this from a supermarket and call it a day. But cooking it at home will be pretty satisfying. All you will need is water, flour, yeast, sugar, vanilla extract and of course red beans.
2. Soma’s Curry Risotto Omurice from Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma
This famous Weekly Shonen Jump manga has gained even more popularity after it was animated in 2019. Fans couldn’t wait to see their favorite dishes come to life through anime. Its recent release on Netflix has gained it even more popularity. When you got an anime dedicated solely to food, it is hard to pick only one iconic dish from it, but for the sake of simplicity required for home cooking, and our Japanese cuisine inspired list, we pick the lovely Curry Risotto Omurice. Omurice is a staple food in Japan. It is super easy to cook at home. All you need is rice, green onions, chicken, egg and ketchup. But for Soma’s version of Omurice, you will need to use Arborio rice (for risotto) and Mango Chutney (for filling). Both of them can be easily bought from supermarket.
1. Ramen Ichiraku from Naruto
Undoubtedly, the most popular anime food of all times is none other than our knuckled-head ninja’s favorite, Ramen Ichiraku. This soup dish is the second most popular food in Japan, following sushi. Whenever you dine at a Japanese restaurant, chances are you’re bound to come across a whole separate category in menu named “Ramen”. It is because there are at least 11 different types of Ramen that exist today. It is a very versatile dish. Its versatility makes it easy to cook. But the key ingredients that make ramen a ramen are unchanged since centuries. These are ramen noodles of your choice (udon, soba etc.), eggs, Shitake mushrooms, green onions, soy sauce and broth of your choice (chicken, beef etc.). Besides these ingredients, you can add anything extra to make your ramen game strong. Much like the famous Ichiraku Ramen in Naruto, where the chef adds cilantro, spinach, and the iconic white and pink Narutomaki, commonly known as fish cake (kamaboko in Japanese) that is made from white fish paste and pink food dye.
