During these stressful times of Covid-19 outbreak, baking can prove quite relaxing. From decorating to consuming baked goods is super fun! Specially decorating a cake is one hell of a serotonin ride. Thanks to quarantine, we got plenty of time to play around with different decors and designs of cake.

Here are 3 famous cake designs that will make your quarantine baking worth a while

1. Vintage

The current generation’s obsession with old times is nothing new. We all have appreciated vintage era more than our current era at some point of our life. In 2020, many bakers have taken inspiration from vintage aesthetics and incorporated it in their cake designs. One famous Korean Youtuber/baker by the name Benny Cake has hyped up the vintage cake designs even more. Home cooks are now recreating her famous vintage cakes and sharing on social media. All you need are different shapes and sizes of piping nozzles, a lot of food dye, and lots of CHERRIES!

2. Minimalistic

As much as we appreciate the maximalist vibes of vintage aesthetics, nothing can beat the clean and relaxing vibes of minimalist designs. Up until today, minimalism was mostly incorporated in designing buildings, furniture and clothes. However, today’s bakers have successfully incorporated it into baking. Minimalist cake designs originated from East Asian countries like Japan and Korea. A standard round cake base is covered into white or pastel colored frosting with little to no cake toppings. One famous minimalist bakery is Banana Haruki, based in Korea. They got famous on Instagram for the simplicity of their cakes, which inspired many bakers to start creating cakes with minimalist designs.

3. Clear

The raindrop cake, which originated from Japan in 2014, took the Internet by storm. Kinseiken Seika Company made the first ever raindrop cake namely mizu shingen mocha. It got international fame when the mainstream media such as The Today Show, BuzzFeed, and ABC news showcased it. It is made from just water, agar and sugar, giving it a transparent crystal like design. Since then, many bakers have started making clear cakes. The cake base is made into jelly, and then decorated with different kinds of frosting and toppings. It is very different from your standard cake, thus making it quite a sight. BuzzFeed Japan got famous for their recreation of teardrop cake, which influenced many bakers to create a version of their own clear cakes. Sharona Franklin, a US based baker got quite famous for her beautiful jello cakes. So much so that a high-end luxury brand Gucci was accused of ripping off her work in their recent campaign. Her beautiful cakes inspired many amateur bakers to create similar agar beauties.
